We love running lures to find striped marlin, Blue Marlin, Broadbill Swordfish and yellowfin tuna . When we have found the fish we will generally switch over to live Baits. If you ever wanted to learn all the old-school Snooks Fuller style techniques of running live and dead baits then this is your opportunity. We will fish with lures or baits and if you are new to game fishing then there’s a great opportunity to learn from some great skippers. We do all this and more on our sport fishing charters Bay of Islands! Experienced and want a committed crew? We also recognise that some anglers have more experience than others and simply require the boat, the skipper and the quality gear to catch marlin with and would rather manage the deck work themselves. El Donna and one of her quality skippers are perfect for this requirement. Due to minimum crew requirements, skipper-only charters are subject to strict conditions. Game fishing season runs late December through to June each year WE fish in the Bay Of islands from December through to June and will fish up and down the coast wherever the fish are. From this base we can fish Cape Brett,  the Poor Knights, or venture north through Whangaroa and beyond to North Cape. We recommend that you plan on a 2-3 day trip which gives you the chance to fish where ever the fish are. We will go wherever the fish are biting. Bring your favourite jig and softbait outfit and you will get the opportunity most days to swing a jig or soft plastic for a kingfish or snapper or two. THE BOAT – Affordable Game Fishing! El Donna is in the habit of catching big fish on a regular basis and keeping the big boys with the Multi million dollar rigs honest during Competition .time. Launched in the late 70’s ‘El Donna’ was one of the first crop of new wave planning hull boats which would slowly but surely replace the displacement boats of a past generation. From the drawing board of Frank Pelin, the ‘Shikaree’ and pelin Hulls in general have proved to be very sea worthy vessel that became firm favorite’s of many boat builders and charter operators in the 80’s and right thru to the 90’s. At 38 feet ‘El Donna’ led the way with a sport fishing career that earned her legendary status when she caught the world’s heaviest ever stripped marlin on Rod & Reel at a whopping 243.6kg. Disqualified on a technicality, this unofficial world record fish is still admired everyday with it currently hanging in the Bay of Islands Swordfish Club.  Having undergone a major refit ‘El Donna’ is ready for another season of great fishing. Equipped with a Cyril Jordon ‘Game Chair’ and a complete arsenal of Shimano tackle featuring Tiagra 80’s, 50’s and 30’s, there’s also plenty of light and heavy tackle for those monster kingfish and triple X snapper. Up on the newly designed hardtop fly bridge there is a full helm station with the latest Furuno and Lowrance electronics. Powered by a single 420hp CAT3126 diesel engine El Donna cruises at 15-20knts knots making for a comfortable ride in all seas. Trip Times El Donna can provision and carry fuel for extended trips of up to 6 days. The most popular are 2-3 day trips which give clients the chance to potentially fish areas between the Mokahinaus in the South and Cavalii’s and Cape Karikari in the North and beyond. We will go wherever the fish are biting. Single day trips are also available subject to existing extended trip bookings. Bring your favourite Jig or Softbait outfit and you will get the opportunity most days to swing a jig or Soft Plastic for a Kingfish and snapper or two. El Donna is one of the classic’s from the Bay Of Islands fleet having been in service since 1979. Both the boat and skippers have a fine reputation of finding fish and landing them. The team on El Donna where possible support the principles of Tag and Release. Anglers call though at the end of the day! We will plan a trip to suit your requirements and we are more than happy to offer a mix of all the different types of fishing available in Northland waters. Single Day Trips are on offer with mid-week specials departing Paihia or Russell where we will be concentrating or efforts between Cape Brett and the Cavalli Islands. Fishing is usually pretty consistent in these areas and the 1st fish of the seasons are usually taken between the 28th December and New Years day. Accommodation Sleeps 6-8 comfortably. designed primarily for 3-4 fisher’s and crew. Fishing Equipment / Tackle All Shimano , including a full compliment of Shimano Tiagra 80W’s run on either a choice of Shimano Tiagra Stand Up or Tiagra 80lb Chair Rods run out of a heavy duty Cyril’s Game Chair. Also carries a compliment of lighter Shimano 50W, Shimano Talica and Oceajigger jigging gear, Shimano Stella. Operating Furuno sounders, Lowrance GPS and radar and running maxsea Safety Equipment: As per required MNZ standards. Daily Rate $1,600.00 P/Day depending on the charter requirements and Game Fishing Northland Vs Snapper fishing in the Hauraki Gulf. Additional charges may apply depending on the nature of charter operations, on board overnight stays and meal requirements and all these will be confirmed prior to any confirmed booking. Clients will typically supply their own bedding, food and beverage requirements. These can be provided on request . Additional charges will apply. Trips depart Paihia, Russell and Whangaroa marina’s in the summer Months and Waipuna, Auckland for snapper during winter.
